You have Sam’s and Costco superstores for groceries and everyday items. You have superstores for home improvement; Lowes and Home Depot quickly come to mind. You even have one on the internet, the almighty Amazon. In fact, I recently visited the world’s biggest superstore for sporting goods…Scheels All Sports (Scheels).
One weekend my daughter called and asked, “What are you up to?” I responded, “Nothing.” She wondered if her mom and I wanted to meet her at Scheel’s to check it out. I said, “What is Scheel’s?” She said, “Dad, trust me, you are going to want to come. It is a superstore for sporting goods equipment.”
Well, let me tell you it is a retail adventure. Their stores included attractions such as a large aquarium near the entranceway, arcade games, and an indoor Ferris wheel. These attractions are all part of their retail experience. Each department section was loaded with lots of products of every conceivable variety. It literally has everything you could ever want. At a place like Scheel’s, one can get whatever they want related to sporting goods.
But what about for engineering content to support design and prototype development? Well, Molex has set out to do just this very thing. If you are an engineer, you are probably inundated with data. It is hard to sort through the clutter and shift through the priorities to quickly get down to the information you need. Content hubs help. They are a way of organizing data that is not based upon chronology and the latest updates, where relevance is not considered or taken into account. As a matter of fact, older information may be more relevant.
Content hubs put thought and care into the organization of the data so that it may be more easily and quickly extracted by potential users. What is necessary is to present data to users to help curate a collection of content in a manner that offers them relevance to a specific topic or category that the customer and end-users are interested in.
