Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are a major player in the commercial lighting market, and demand continues to grow. Like the illumination they cast, LEDs have a bright future.

According to one projection, by 20301, the general LED market size is predicted to have a double-digit compound annual growth rate. The growth is the result of increasing consumer demand for energy-efficient lighting solutions.

LEDs also offer reliability, long life, reduced power consumption, small size, high efficacy (light delivered per energy consumed), and a high degree of design flexibility.

Their use cases are growing. Construction sectors for residential and commercial applications and auto manufacturers are finding innovative LED uses.

Also, LED manufacturers have continued to move up the customer design chain to offer comprehensive solutions for customers, including combining LED, optical, electronic, and mechanical features into a single product—a module.

In this week's New Tech Tuesdays, we'll look at LED commercial lighting solutions from Luminus Devices, New Energy, and Cree LED.

Modules, Modules, Modules

Luminus Devices' CCT Tunable LED Spot Modules feature cool and warm CubePower LEDs on a metal printed circuit board. The module has a high lumen density and enables 10º to 40º beam angles. The module also provides a 4000K to 1800K Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) range for residential lighting and a 6500K to 2700K CCT range for commercial lighting. The modules are ideal for residential and commercial lighting, ceiling and wall mount light, and multifunction space lighting.

New Energy's Salud MP3030 Linear LED Modules use standard form factors, which for designers, can mean shorter development time and better configuration for off-the-shelf optics and drivers. The MP3030 modules are 11-inch boards with 24 LEDs integrated into each. The modules also have an emission wavelength of 4000K with a 90-color rendering index. They operate at 31.8V and measure 279.5mm x 22mm x 6mm. Their ideal applications are lighting for offices, study areas, retail, nursing homes, transportation, and hospitals.

Cree LED's XLamp® XM-L® Color (RGBW) Gen 2 LEDs are multicolor, coming in red, green, blue, and white (RGBW). They have high lumen output with color mixing in a small form 5mm x 5mm package. These Gen 2 LEDs eliminate the space between the LED die, creating a small optical source for optical control and color mixing. Gen 2 also includes a high-intensity version that further reduces the optical source size for increased levels of optical control. They're ideal for RGBW lighting applications, including color-changing, stage, architectural, and entertainment.

Tuesday's Takeaway

The LED market is expanding with applications growing for developers faced with products with favorable design flexibilities to craft commercial lighting solutions. In short, it's a bright future for LEDs.
